In some modern houses they don’t use those anymore, Although in many houses and most houses in the past a sump pump was used to pump the water out, … from away from the Walls of the foundation of the house , …
And a lot of times If there’s people walking past on the sidewalk …. all of a sudden … Like I said before , .. Gurgle gurgle,

gushing water,
.. now there’s a little river flowing right past where people are walking or riding their bicycles or walking their dogs……
